As a child in the 1950's...I remember a couple came to our school (Parochial School) he was an actor from the 1940's Western movies, a character actor and what I remember is that he told all the children in the audience "never drink Coca Cola. Never." He would take a raw piece of hamburger meat put it in a glass bowl and fill it up with coca cola and by the end of his performance which included rope tricks, singing and playing his guitar, he would show the children how the cola would have completely dissolved the hamburger meat. It was a sludge, he also told us it would dissolve our teeth. Ah those memories from the 50's.

I remember girls in college, to play it safe, using a bottle of Coke as a douche after sex. We're talking about the late 1960's.

Although I am not a man, thank God I’ve always hated Coke and most pops since I was a kid! I rarely kept it in our house when my kids were growing up and only bought some for parties because relatives had to have that or Pepsi, and Seven Up!!! Thanks for a great article! Unbelievable how evil all these companies are.

Yes I’m sure they added the coca leaves to the recipe as to addict people to their products

Georgi Dinkov has a science paper on his Haidut site (several months ago) that discusses Coke/Pepsi and how they increase both testicle size and testosterone level--but, only the versions with real sugar (not HFCS). He says it's not the caffeine, but, rather the sugar that is the active agent. Taken orally, of course.

Thank God I grew up poor and rarely had pop. We had elk steak and potatoes and water.

I also learned it was the soft drinks that led to bad hangovers so went to shots :)

Your analysis is right on! Then, in Poland we had a slogan 'Coca Cola This Is It', which nowadays is Vaccinations This Is It, no?

Someone should run the experiment with plain old sugar water. I guess anyone with a microscope could do that.

Once someone told me that Coke was the best thing to use to dissolve the crust on your car battery poles, I sorta figured it was some kinda unwonderful. It does work well for that, by the way.
