The mosquito release project area on Maui is 64,666 acres. The state has been funded to build out an insectary here in Hawai'i where they intend to mass produce lab-altered mosquitoes for release on the islands "into perpetuity"...starting with the bacteria-infected mosquitoes, then producing CRISPR gene-edited mosquitoes.
