When our son was 2 I gathered zucchini from the garden but needed more, so I went to the market and got a couple. When supper was served, the little one dug into the zucchini. Some pieces he ate, others he spit out. I soon found out why. Our garden ones were sweet but the store bought ones were a somewhat bitter. Homegrown is so good. Today I served a huge late-maturing tomato from the garden. My husband said it was the only part of the salad that was actually good even though other items were organic. We’ve been protecting from near frost nights with agricultural row protection clipped to the tomato cages.
