A few decades ago, they did a project called "Eden," which ended up not only starving the participants, but also releasing toxic gases from the soil. They wanted to create a self-sustaining system, and they completely insulated the greenhouse, including the soil... That was the end of the project. I don't think this project was overlooked when such building codes were passed!
