When I was a kid our dogs lived mostly off table scraps, supplemented by whatever "Gaines" kibble was.

The table scraps from 1975 were no doubt less poisonous than today.

The dogs were just let outside. No leash law. Other than the odd one hit by a car, their lives were happier than dogs treated like spoiled children today

I don't remember any dog having cancer when I was a child. Now every dogs seem to die from cancer, even my two dogs died from cancer. Back in the days my parents fed our dogs table scraps and never vaccinate them. My childhood dogs all lived a long happy life.
